If you have looked in fall issue of Utah Style and Design, Designer Juidiith Clawson dresses a welcoming home with a rustic elegance and upbeat, contemporary character.

" Plan your work and work your plan" certainly describes the approach taken designer Juidiith Clawson when she created the decor in this Park City Canyons Resort home. Clawson established two main objectives and set out to achieve them. First, her clients owners of the Wasatch Powderbird Guides heli-skiing company) asked her to design the home to comfortably sleep several guests at any given time, despite having only four bedrooms. Second, they wanted the home to reflect the natural beauty of the canyons without the typical mountain or European design of many resort dwelling.

A Pleasing Palette

Most people respond to color on an instinctual level.

Designer Clawson shares insights on making color work for you.

Visual Enhancement

Color is a tool so don't be afraid to use it to unify

or delineate spaces. For example, this Canyon's

home's dining room, kitchen and living room share

one grand space with high ceiling. "By using one color

in all spaces, the large area seems cozier, " says Clawson.

Savings

The easiest thing to change in a home is the color palette,

so you if you want to refresh the look of your space,

color gives more look for less buck.

" Colorful Fabrics and artwork create the wow

factors that make a room pop", say Clawson.

"Experiment with daring color combinations

to really make a statement.

Atmosphere

Colors can help match the elements of a room

to the feeling you want to create. " Let the

seasonal windows scapes dictate your palette."

says Clawson. For example, soothing orche

grayday, while a blue gray tone can create

the effect of an introspective coastal morning.

Color changes according to season and light.

Before committing to a color, paint an small

section of the wall and watch how it changes throughout

the day with different exposures to sun. " Make sure you

see the color once the paint of varnish has dried, " advises Clawson.

" It can be surprising how dramatically wet and dry paint differ."

Definition

Color defines a space and tells a story as you move from

room to room. Anything you put in front of a

colored backdrop comes into sharper focus and takes on a

new identity. Colors help transform the perceived space.

Light colors bring elements to the foreground, while darker colors tend

to recede. So depending on whether you want to make a room

seem larger or create a cozy, intimate space, color is key.

When we see a room that hasn’t been accessorized, we feel a little let down. Overreaction perhaps, but that’s just who we are. A room that hasn’t been styled just isn’t finished – even if the architecture and furniture are downright brilliant. It’s like getting dressed up and forgetting the jewelry and shoes. It’s like writing a novel without punctuation.

“It’s natural to want your rooms to look as pulled-together as the rooms in magazines. That completed look comes from the perfect accessories, so it’s important to plan for them as much as the furniture.”

A quick way to take your home from blah to bravo is to layer on the small things that add personality, style, and warmth. With luck and ingenuity, they’ll also be great conversation starters while making your domestic life a bit more blissful by fulfilling a necessary function.

When we invented our seven Lifestyles – Loft, Metro, Estate, Global, Villa, Glamour, Country House – we thought about the total home and the total room right down to the last detail. this " how to " DIY syndrome & image generated self help time on the tube, informs of much and inspires discontent......perhaps I'll take a chance floating a word or two of what I think I have learned about spaces and places

what they say about us! (scary) but....

and perhaps we might apply it to an approach for fresh beginnings.

darn if those FIRST IMPRESSIONS don't give a whim of us

when people visit our inside living spaces-

they form an impression of our surroundings. Simple views are setting the tone.

The furnishings, pictures and ornamentation.

How you choose your colors and general order of your space image can really matter.....and set a precedence. One of which is really important to us. (Sometimes this part is really awkward) but....so the following.

Smell-temperature-textures of fabrics-colors-and the sounds in a home all have important parts to play. Sensual elements of the home create peace -

ESTABLISH PRIORITIES

understanding more about this impression will help you decide your priorities when it comes to freshening and re-inventing your space

furniture: comfortable demonstrates a desire to relax. Seating in a forward and conversational direction indicates you enjoy other peoples company and you wish them to feel wanted and enjoyed. Furniture that has more to do with settings and style reflect preoccupation with status. "hmmmm...really"
monitors for viewing need be 'viewed' as making our company second in importance- similar to responding to texting in front of your friends. Not a good thing. If you have a cabinet over it (even if you have to open it most of the time) it is thought to show you have a degree of control over the outside world and your home..... how about it news junkies?
lighting is an important element as the inclinations and romantic intentions are sometimes viewed. Low spa lighting and Indian, spot and feather relaxation music- can calm the events of a space. While classical waterfall music can stimulate. Oh, I'm so sure. But the studio in my home always is being criticized for these eventful tunes changing moods, right, so let the Pandora soar with a little James brown mix.
art work and photography are such an open display of those things that you place importance. Whether it be plants, animals, rock posters and for certain your sweet families and things that make you remember your past and place it's importance. This share is evidence of who you are... but let's be careful how and what we display. No home should totally exhibit "fridgeart" on every wall.
Let's face it - you all know that a tidy room, great music the smell of bread and the sound of trickling water makes you feel when you walk into a home. This inspires and settles our..."happy to be here" little souls.....you know it!
Smile, you all know how to create that great first impression.

To believe the entire length of a 99" repeat fabric is 23 colors hand blocked(stamped)

The original pattern was created by Henry Wearne, an English textile designer for fabrics in America and all "hand blocked."316 times, to be exact

the carved tiles have essential color way to provide each block with an added dimension to the fabric's press.

a little wainescoat- soft colors-

Blue gray venetian plaster brings the sky in and down,

not to bright, but restful, to make the windows cloud,

and soft seascented air pallete creates a refreshing scope of bedding that whispers

" Enough moose and bear design" at the Canyons.

Venetian Plaster is a wall surfacing technique, considered an art form, applying thin layers of plaster with a spatula with blue steel blades that creates a distinctive, smooth, soft mirror finish.

This paint technique was used widely throughout history: tombs in Egypt were decorated with a lime and gypsum plaster; cities in India used plaster - one in particular used blood for the pigment, resulting to its nickname The Pink City. Italy was ,and still is, widely known for its beautiful colors and plaster technique.

Creating a surface of Venetian Plaster is a very involved process. It takes time, patience and an eye for detail.

A Little Chimeny Pot History

CHIMNEY POTS are a simple, inexpensive way to add height to a chimney and add ARCHITECTURAL interest to a home.

The concept of the CHIMNEY POTS developed in London during the reign of Elizabeth I.

A TRADITIONAL English home during this century would only have one fireplace with one chimney stack to heat one room. But, as the design of the traditional home slowing evolved from one room to many rooms, there developed a need to heat an entire house with only one chimney stack.

The SOLUTION - using multiple chimney pots on one stack that connected to each fireplace in the home.

By the 1660s, chimney pots flourished from a functional heating solution to a form of craftsmanship, later to be viewed as a status symbol.

One of our clients asked Templetes to create a pantry space with

1.ceiling height cupboards

2.counter space

3. lots of storage

4. plenty of natural light

5. full fridge

WITHOUT knocking down any exterior walls and framing any windows.

We arose to the challenge!

Templetes Design approach is to always utilize space that is not currently being use. In this particular remodel the three car garage had room to spare with an existing window. Creating access through the laundry room we were able to accomplish exactly what our client wanted! It's amazing what you do with only

150 square feet!
